1-2-Step Back-2 in a Live Round, on Video
The Shadow Boxing App is a boxing coach that lives in your pocket: it calls out punches, defenses, and footwork in real time, and you react to the voice instead of staring at a screen. This short video shows what that looks like in a real gym session. The boxer is shadow boxing next to a heavy bag while the app runs a round, and the app screen is overlaid on the clip so you can follow the callouts as they land.
The combo in the spotlight is 1-2-Step Back-2. Jab, cross, then slide out of range, then come straight back in with a second cross. It is one of our favorite sequences to teach because it makes you do the thing beginners forget: get out after you land. We showed how the app builds this combo up piece by piece in an earlier video; this one is the finished product, thrown at full speed in the middle of a round with other combos coming before and after it.
Notice that the boxer never looks at the phone. The callout arrives, the feet and hands answer, and the next one is already on its way. That is the whole idea behind the app, and the reason the pause between combos matters as much as the punches, something we dug into in the article on two-phase attacks. The app is free to try, so download it, prop your phone somewhere out of your eyeline, and see how this combo feels when you have to react to it rather than read it.
