Privacy Policy

It is The Shadow Boxing App’s policy to respect your privacy regarding any information we may collect while operating our website and our mobile applications. This Privacy Policy applies to the website at https://shadowboxingapp.com and to the Shadow Boxing App for iOS and Android (hereinafter, “us” or “we”). We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting the personal information you may provide us.

This Privacy Policy applies only to information we collect through the website and the apps and does not apply to our collection of information from other sources.

Information we collect

Website

Like most website operators, we collect non-personally-identifying information of the sort that web browsers and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, language preference, referring site, and the date and time of each visitor request. Our purpose in collecting this information is to better understand how visitors use the website. From time to time, we may release non-personally-identifying information in the aggregate, for example by publishing a report on trends in the usage of the website.

The website is a static site hosted on GitHub Pages, which follows its own privacy policy.

We use Google Analytics to measure how the website is used, such as which pages are visited and where visitors come from. Google Analytics sets cookies and processes this information according to Google’s privacy policy. It is not linked to anything you do in the app.

Some pages embed videos hosted on YouTube. When you view a page with an embedded video, YouTube (Google) may set cookies and collect information according to Google’s privacy policy.

Our contact page uses an embedded Google Form. Anything you enter in that form, including your email address if you provide it, is processed by Google on our behalf and forwarded to us.

Data you enter in the app

During onboarding and in the settings, the app asks for information such as your gender, weight, stance, experience level, fitness level and available equipment. This is used to adapt workouts and recommendations. The app also stores the workouts you complete, your custom combos, custom exercises, timers, bookmarks and personal records.

This data is stored on your device. It is not sent to our servers. We do not operate user accounts and do not ask you to log in.

iCloud and Google backup

On iOS, your training data (workout history, custom combos, custom exercises, timers, bookmarks, personal records and backups) is synced to your own private iCloud database so that it follows you across your devices. This data lives in your Apple account and is subject to Apple’s privacy policy. We do not have access to it.

On Android, your training data and preferences are included in Google’s automatic app backup, which is stored in your Google account and subject to Google’s privacy policy. We do not have access to it.

Apple Health

On iOS, you can choose to connect the app to Apple Health. This is optional and off by default.

If you enable it, the app writes your completed boxing workouts and the estimated calories burned to Apple Health. It can also read your heart rate during a workout to display it on screen if you turn that option on.

Health data is only exchanged between the app and Apple Health on your device. It is never sent to us or to any third party, never used for analytics, and never used for advertising or marketing. You can revoke this access at any time in the Health app or in the iOS Settings.

Usage analytics and crash reports

To understand how the app is used and to fix bugs, the app sends usage events and crash reports to the following service providers:

Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics (Google), for usage statistics and crash reports.
PostHog, hosted in the European Union, for usage statistics.
RevenueCat, for managing subscriptions and purchase status.

These events describe how the app is used, for example which workout was started or whether a subscription is active, along with general information about your device such as the model, operating system version and language. They are associated with a random identifier generated when the app is installed. We do not use the advertising identifier of your device, we do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not send your name or email address to these providers.

The app does not display advertisement.

Purchases

Subscriptions are purchased through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Apple or Google handles the payment and we never receive your payment details. We use RevenueCat to check whether your subscription is active. RevenueCat receives purchase receipts and a random identifier for your installation, not your name or payment information.

Support requests

When you contact us through the in-app feedback or bug report forms, your message is sent to us through Google Forms and processed by Google on our behalf. Providing your email address is optional, and we only use it to reply to you. Reports also include technical information about your device and app configuration to help us troubleshoot. When you email us directly, your message is handled through Gmail.

Videos

Tutorial and program videos are streamed from YouTube or from our video hosting provider, Gumlet. When you watch one, the provider receives the technical information needed to deliver the video, such as your IP address, in accordance with its own privacy policy.

Security

The security of your personal information is important to us, but remember that no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Information usage

We use the information we collect to operate and improve our website, apps, and customer support.

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with the service providers listed in this policy, to the extent necessary for them to provide their service to us. We may share anonymous, aggregate statistics with outside parties, such as how many people use a particular workout.

We may disclose your information in response to subpoenas, court orders, or other legal requirements; to exercise our legal rights or defend against legal claims; to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud or abuse, violations of our policies; or to protect our rights and property.

In the future, we may sell to, buy, merge with, or partner with other businesses. In such transactions, user information may be among the transferred assets.

Accessing, changing, or deleting information

You can review and change the information you entered at any time in the app settings. You can delete your workout history and personal records from within the app.

Deleting the app removes all data stored on your device. It does not remove the copies kept in your own iCloud or Google backup. To remove those, delete the app’s data from your iCloud storage settings (iOS) or from your Google account backup settings (Android).

Third-party links, content and affiliate links

We may display links and content from other companies and sites. These have their own independent privacy policies, and we have no responsibility or liability for their content or activities.

Some links to equipment in the app and on the website are affiliate links, for example to Amazon or Elite Jumps. If you buy something through one of these links, we may earn a commission. This does not change the price you pay, and we do not receive any personal information about your purchase.

California Online Privacy Protection Act Compliance

We comply with the California Online Privacy Protection Act. We therefore will not distribute your personal information to outside parties without your consent.

Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act Compliance

We never knowingly collect or maintain information from those we actually know are under 13, and no part of our website or apps is structured to attract anyone under 13.

We comply with the General Data Protection Regulation. We rely on the following legal bases to process your information:

Performance of a contract, to provide the app and manage your subscription.
Legitimate interest, to understand how the app is used, fix bugs and answer your support requests.
Consent, for the optional Apple Health connection.

We keep information only as long as needed for these purposes.

If you are located in the European Union, you have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to receive a copy of it, to object to or restrict its processing, and to withdraw your consent at any time. To exercise any of these rights, email us at shadowboxingworkout@gmail.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

International Transfers of Information

Information may be processed, stored, and used outside of the country in which you are located. Some of the service providers listed in this policy may process data outside the European Union, under the safeguards described in their own terms. Data privacy laws vary across jurisdictions, and different laws may be applicable to your data depending on where it is processed, stored, or used.
