A Free Boxing Round Timer on Android

If you train any fighting sport on an Android phone, you probably know the pain of opening a round timer app and getting hit with banners, paywalls, or a login screen before you can even pick a round length. We made a free round timer for boxing part of the Shadow Boxing App, and as of this month, you can get the free boxing timer on Android. It is built for boxing first, but it works for MMA, Muay Thai, kickboxing, karate, and taekwondo as well.

Built for fighting sports

This is not a generic interval timer with a boxing icon pasted on top. The round logic, the bell, the warning beeps, the preset rules: all of it is set up the way a fighter expects it.

  • Pro Boxing. 12 rounds, 3 minutes, 1 minute of rest. Same format you see on TV on fight night.
  • Amateur Boxing (Men). 3 rounds, 3 minutes, 1 minute of rest.
  • Amateur Boxing (Women). 4 rounds, 2 minutes, 1 minute of rest.
  • MMA. 3 rounds, 5 minutes, 1 minute of rest.
  • Muay Thai. 5 rounds, 3 minutes, 2 minutes of rest.
  • Kickboxing, Karate, Taekwondo. Their actual competition formats, not approximations.

Pick one of these and the round count, work time, and rest time are filled in for you. If you want to run something custom, you can also dial in any combination from 10-second rounds up to 10-minute rounds.

What the timer actually does on Android

A timer on a fight gym wall is dead simple: rounds, rest, a bell. The app version on Android keeps that simplicity at its core and adds the things you actually need when you train alone or at home.

  • A real boxing bell sound, not a generated beep. Two volume levels in case your gym is loud or you are training with music on.
  • A customisable end-of-round warning, the same audio cue a corner would call out. Set it to 10 seconds, 20, 30, or whatever fits how you train, instead of being locked into a single value.
  • A warmup countdown before the first bell so you can wrap your hands or finish lacing up.
  • A full-screen display with a round progress ring, the round number, and a clear phase label that reads from across the room. The whole screen also changes color when you switch from work to rest, so you can tell at a glance which phase you are in without squinting at the numbers.
  • Background mode so the timer keeps running with the screen off.

It is also fully native on Android, not a web wrapper. That means it opens fast, runs cleanly mid-round, and keeps working when you have no signal. Useful in a garage gym, a hotel room, or anywhere reception drops.

No ads, no paywall, free

The timer is free on Android. No banner ads breaking your focus between rounds, no popup mid-session, no countdown to a trial expiry. It has been that way on iOS since the app launched, and it is the same on Android now that we released the Android version.

There is a paid tier for the rest of the app, which unlocks guided workouts, programs, advanced exercises, and the technique library. The timer itself is not behind that. You can install the app, set up your rounds, and start training without ever opening a paywall.

Browser version, if you do not want to install anything

If you would rather not install an app at all, we also built a free online boxing round timer that runs in any browser. It is simpler than the Android app, but it covers rounds, rest, bell sounds, and sport presets, and it works on any device. The Android app is better if you train regularly, since you get the workouts, the technique catalogue, and offline support. The browser timer is better if you just need a clock once and do not want anything on your phone.

How to get the timer on Android

Open Google Play and install the Shadow Boxing App on your Android phone. The timer is in the app from the first screen. No setup, no account.

If you have a heavy bag at home, a jump rope, or just an empty room, that is enough to use the timer. Open it, pick a sport preset or set your own rounds, hit Start, and train. Hours of guided sessions are available in the same app if you eventually want more than a clock, but the free timer alone is enough for sparring, bag work, or freestyle rounds on its own.
