Getting 1% Better, Every Update

There is a concept in boxing that serious trainers talk about: the idea of getting 1% better every session. Not transformed overnight. Not a dramatic breakthrough. Just slightly sharper, slightly more consistent, slightly more prepared than last time. Over months, that compounds into something real.

We try to build the Shadow Boxing App the same way.

What we have been adding

The app launched as a training timer with punch callouts. That core is still there, but the surface area has grown considerably since then.

Jump rope programs. Jump rope is a boxing staple and we kept hearing from people who wanted more structure around it, not just a timer. So we built out a dedicated jump rope section with progressive programs for different skill levels, from basic bounce to advanced footwork combinations. As far as we know, no other boxing app does this.

Combo creator. The app already called out combinations for you. But some people wanted to design their own, specific sequences for a style they were developing or a fight they were preparing for. The combo builder lets you build a sequence and have it called out in a session like any other.

Mobility exercises. Before you punch, your joints need to be ready. We added a dedicated mobility section with guided exercises for shoulders, hips, ankles, and more. It sits alongside the guided warmup as proper session preparation.

Quick start. Sometimes you want a session in two minutes without choosing exercises, setting rounds, and dialling everything in. Quick start generates a workout from a handful of parameters and puts you straight into training.

More tutorial videos. Technique is harder to teach through text and diagrams. We have been adding videos with real coaches demonstrating movements so you can see what correct form actually looks like, not just read about it.

A redesigned interface. We rebuilt the navigation and cleaned up the layout. It is faster to get to what you need, easier to read mid-session, and more consistent across the app.

Who is building this

We are a small, independent team. Everyone involved in the app boxes. That is not a marketing line; it is just true, and it matters. When someone suggests adding mobility exercises, it is because they skipped them once and paid for it. When the quick start feature got built, it was because we kept wanting it ourselves on days when we had thirty minutes and no patience for setup.

Being small means we move slower than a funded startup. But it also means we are not adding features to hit a roadmap or satisfy an investor. We add things because boxers need them.

What comes next

Honestly, we do not always know what we are going to build until we do the work of figuring out what is missing. We read reviews. We talk to people who use the app. We look at our own training and notice where the app does not help us as much as it could.

That process is ongoing. The list above is not a complete history of changes; it is a snapshot. By the time you read this, something else will probably have been added.

If you have been using the app and there is something you wish it did, we are genuinely interested. The best ideas we have had came from people who use it.
